What Are Back Links

A back link, is a link that is placed on another website that links directly back to your website or web page.  It could be from somebody who is recommending your website, product or service or simply from an advert.

Having back links to your website, are not only a good way to generate traffic but are also a huge part of gaining high ranking with the search engines.  Having a back link from a website that is ranked higher than your own website, will prove to be beneficial to your own website ranking on the search engines.

Acquiring good back links from major websites can be hard but it is possible.  Many people acquire back links by simply contacting other website owners and asking them if they would be willing to place a link on their website in return for a reciprocal link from their own web site.

Dropping links into forums, blogs or networking sites can be a good way to create back links but if you do use this technique, make sure you only place links on the forums that allow you to do so.

The best back links are ones that are one way, i.e they only link to you and you do not link to them.
